Sustainable Transport at Salters Heath

It is important to us that we encourage and facilitate ways for anyone using the Salters Heath buildings to travel to and from work sustainably.

Please review the key measures that will be implemented as part of our sustainable transport strategy.

Cycle to work scheme

Cycling to work will be promoted and future building users will be provided with an information pack, encouraging them to sign up to the Government’s Cycle to Work initiative. The scheme provides tax-free bicycles for employees, which leads to a saving of roughly 25% on the cost of a bicycle and will be paid through salary sacrifice.

Companies will need to register for the scheme and can then promote it amongst their staff.

The scheme is operated by several third-party providers, including, but not limited to:

Cyclist facilities and benefits

Users of the buildings who take up the scheme and choose to cycle to work will be able to take advantage of the following on-site facilities:

  • Showers with changing areas
  • Drying facilities for clothes
  • Hair dryers
  • Ironing facilities
  • Cycle wash down and dedicated tool station

Cycle Club

A cycle club will be established by the Travel Plan Co-ordinator for companies at Salters Heath in order to further encourage cycling to and from work. Individuals from companies at Salters Heath can also join the private Facebook group and WhatsApp group. These groups will enable cycle club members to communicate with each other, encouraging route sharing and buddy riding as well as providing information about available cycling infrastructure. More information to follow.

Cycle Storage

Additionally, easily accessible cycle storage is provided on site. This includes covered cycle spaces with Sheffield stands for security. These facilities will be maintained and kept in good order, so that building users feel confident when leaving their bicycles there.

Walking incentives

We will be introducing several initiatives to encourage any companies on site to walk to work. These will include:

  • Walk to Work Week, to increase awareness amongst occupiers
  • Provision of pedometers to promote a healthy workforce
  • Providing information and maps of the local area to encourage staff to walk at least part of the way to or from work, and for exercise during work breaks.

Travel information service

Travel Information will be provided for the building users. This will be displayed on a notice board or screen within a communal area and on the Salters Heath website:
This will provide information such as:

  • Location of bus stops in the local area, bus times, different nearby routes
  • Locations of rail stations in the local area, information about the frequency of services, alerts when there are delays to local services
  • Taxi information
  • Local cycle-hire stations
  • Providing information and maps of the local area to encourage staff to walk at least part of the way to or from work and during lunch breaks

Car sharing

We understand that sometimes, travel by car is the only option available to people. Car sharing is when two or more people share a car and travel together. It allows people to benefit from the convenience of the car, whilst reducing the number of vehicle journeys, helping to alleviate problems of congestion and pollution.

In order to achieve a reduction in car mileage we will create a register of individuals interested in participating in car sharing across occupiers, putting individuals in touch to facilitate shared use of private cars.
